US stocks posted gains after recovering initial losses

FXStreet (San Francisco) - Wall Street rose on Thursday despite weaker than expected retail sales data but fueled by strong earnings reports. Stocks recovered from initials losses and closed at 3-week highs.

The Dow Jones advanced 63.65 points or 0.40% to finish the day at 16,027.59. The S&P 500 added 10.57 points or 0.58% to close at 1,829.83. The Nasdaq Composite climbed 39.38 points or 0.94% to post its sixth consecutive daily gains to 4,240.67.

Flash: GBP/USD to go beyond recent high

Jonathan Pryor, Head of FX Dealing at Investec, commented in a recent report that he would expect more gains in the Sterling to Dollar exchange rate. Pryor affirmed that a weak retail sales plus Carney's comments will fuel the cross.
